Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners

Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners
A 1965 graduate of the Architectural Association and a contemporary of Richard Rogers and Norman Foster (see Foster Associates), Nicholas Grimshaw created his present firm in 1980. A practitioner of the high-tech style, his numerous factory structures include those for Herman Miller in Bath (1976), BMW at Bracknell (1980), Vitra at Weil am Rhein, Germany (1981) and for the Financial Times in London (1988). His involvements in high-profile projects include the energy saving British Pavilion at the Expo ’92 in Seville, built out of glass with canvas sides and a water cascade down one elevation. His additions to Waterloo Station (1990–3) show a move away from surface articulation towards a more profound interest in enclosing space.
